CHRIS DAUGHTRY BIOGRAPHY
When people look at Chris Daughtry, they associate the Carolinian with American Idol and the rock and roll superstardom that’s swept him up and made him one of music’s rising stars. The glamorous and famous lifestyle coupled with being a rock star was obviously nothing like Chris’ earlier life…

Christopher Daughtry was born on 26th December 1979 in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina to parents Pete and Sandra Daughtry. He was raised in Lasker, North Carolina until he was fourteen years old. Chris graduated from Fluvanna County High School in 1998. It was not until Chris was sixteen years old that he started taking singing seriously as a professional musician. During his time in high school, he performed live with rock bands and also appeared in two stage productions of ‘The Wiz’ and ‘Peter Pan’. Chris’ first band during high school was called ‘Cadence’ in which he sang leading vocals and played rhythm guitar. They produced only one album that was supposedly found on the online auction site, eBay.

Chris has been married to his wife Deanna since 2000 and has two children, the eldest, his step-daughter Hannah from a previous relationship of Deanna’s. The couple have a boy together, Griffin Daughtry born in January 2000.

Chris has been a founding member of various bands before his break in American Idol came along. Besides his high school band, ‘Cadence’ the other and more notable band was ‘Absent Element’. Chris sang leading vocals and rhythm guitar once more and the band released one album, ‘Uprooted’. Songs ‘Convicted’ and ‘Breakdown’ are featured on the album and are notable as they were combined and re-recorded for Daughtry’s best selling self titled album.

Chris wasn’t completely blind to televised music competitions prior to his American Idol entry. In 2005, Chris auditioned for the CBS singing contest, ‘Rock Star: INXS’. He did not make the final casting cut for the filming of the show. Auditioning for series five of popular show, ‘American Idol’ Chris made his way through the various rounds and survived many eliminations from the contest, being one of the few favourites to win the show. His experience was cut short close to the final when he was surprisingly eliminated on the May 10th 2006 show, despite the judges favouring fellow contestant Katharine McPhee for the elimination.

After his ‘Idol’ experience, Chris appeared on various chat shows and was also featured in the ‘American Idol Series 5: Encores’ CD. It was announced Chris has signed with 19 Entertainment and RCA records on July 10th 2006. It was furthermore revealed that he would be forming his own band and working on an album slated for a release later that year. The band were soon to be known as ‘Daughtry’ after Chris’ last name and released their debut single ‘It’s Not Over’ (to positive reviews) on November 21st 2006 as well as the self-titled debut album, ‘Daughtry’.

Over a year has passed since the band burst on to the scene with their debut single and album and in that year the band and Chris have accomplished a lot. Grammy Award nominations as well as American Music Awards to their name so far, it seems that the sky is the limit for Daughtry.
