AMERICAN IDOL PERFORMANCES
Chris Daughtry soared through his first audition with approval from judges, Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul. His edgy voice was a breath of fresh air and the likeable, down to earth personality shone through and earned him a bigger fan base each week. Below is a record of Chris’ performances during the latter rounds of the competition.
Date: 22nd February 2006 Show Theme: Singer’s Choice Song Choice: ‘Wanted Dead or Alive’ by Bon Jovi Judges Comments: Were positive, Randy Jackson said he could see Chris “going all the way”. Simon Cowell said he was “hearing someone with potential”.
Date: 1st March 2006 Show Theme: Singer’s Choice Song Choice: ‘Haemorrhage (In My Hands)’ by Fuel Judges Comments: Were again positive, each judge loved Chris’ performance and it was quoted ‘the best of the night’.
Date: 8th March 2006 Show Theme: Singer’s Choice Song Choice: ‘Broken’ by Seether Judges Comments: Mixed comments from the judges this week as Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson liked his performance but Simon Cowell did not.
Date: 14th March 2006 Show Theme: Stevie Wonder Song Choice: ‘Higher Ground’ Judges Comments: Were positive, Simon Cowell really liked it opening his comments with ‘thank God for Chris’.
Date: 21st March 2006 Show Theme: 1950’s Song Choice: ‘I Walk the Line’ by Johnny Cash Judges Comments: Positive comments were given by the judge who liked Chris’ performance and praised his originality in how he performed the track.
Date: 28th March 2006 Show Theme: Songs of the 21st Century Song Choice: ‘What If’ by Creed Judges Comments: The judges were mixed in favour of this performance; although Randy Jackson liked it he thought that it was not his best performance. Paul Abdul however, liked it a lot more and praised Chris increasingly.
Date: 4th April 2006 Show Theme: Country Song Choice: ‘Making Memories of Us’ by Keith Urban Judges Comments: Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul thought Chris’ performance was good and showed another side to him (musically). Simon Cowell thought the song choice was boring but agreed with the other two judges.
Date: 11th April 2006 Show Theme: Queen Song Choice: ‘Innuendo’ Judges Comments: Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul again agreed that they liked Chris’ performance but Simon Cowell did not like it, hoping he’d of picked a different Queen song.
Date: 18th April 2006 Show Theme: Great American Songbook Song Choice: ‘What a Wonderful World’ by Louis Armstrong Judges Comments: All the judges had a positive comment on Chris’ performance including Simon Cowell who said it was “great”.
Date: 25th April 2006 Show Theme: Greatest Love Songs Song Choice: ‘Have you ever really loved a woman?’ by Bryan Adams Judges Comments: All the judges liked Chris’ performance during this week.
Date: 2nd May 2006 Show Theme(s): Songs from singer’s birth year (1979)/Billboard Top 10 Song Choice: ‘Renegade’ by Styx/‘I Dare You’ by Shinedown Judges Comments: All the judges loved Chris’ first performance but had mixed feelings towards the second commenting that his voice was starting to give out.
Date: 9th May 2006 Show Theme: Elvis Presley Song Choice: “Suspicious Minds’/’A little less conversation’ Judges Comments: On his first performance, Paula Abdul commented that the song sounded good when Chris sang and that “you don’t know how good it is…” until you hear his version. On his second performance, Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul loved it but Simon Cowell thought it was “flat”.
